Infirmary, now main entrance block, Horton General Hospital. 1869-72 by Charles
Driver. H.R. Franklins of Deddington, builders. Red brick banded in blue. Stone
dressings. Steeply pitched red tile roof, brick end stacks. E-plan. Gothic
style. Central advanced entrance bay of one and a half storeys is flanked by
gabled single-storey side wings. Gabled entrance bay has central doorway with
pointed arched head with red and blue brick surrounds and stone hoodmould and
label stops. C20 2-storey glass porch. Embattled tower with machicolations.
Ground floor has sashes with horns and stone heads. Attic storey has
half-dormers with hipped roofs and sashes with horns, tall narrow windows with
pointed red and blue brick and stone decoration to heads. Stone copings. Brick.
dentilled eaves. C20 single-stormy brick extensions to front, obscuring detail
of side wings, are not of special architectural interest. Interior retains
original roof structure.
