Farmhouse. Late C17, with early C18 and mid C19 extensions. Coursed limestone
rubble; gabled stone slate roof; large brick left end stack, and right end stack
of stone finished in brick. L-plan with front left wing. 2 storeys; 2-window
range. Stop-chamfered timber lintel over C20 door. Timber lintels over C20
windows and over firelight to right. Early C18 front wing of similar materials
and 2-storey, 2-window range: outshut housing bakehouse to rear. Interior: main
range has step-chamfered beams, late C17/C18 ribbed and 2-panelled doors, 2 mid
C18 first-floor fireplaces with pulvinated friezes, and winder stairs to
butt-purlin roof in attic. Front wing has late C16 reset panelling, and boxed
beam and mid C18 panelled dado in rear room. Rear outshut has bakeoven, and
large late C17 plank door with fittings to front. Subsidiary features: limestone
mounting block, probably C17, attached to right. Earthworks of former mill to
north; the front wing was refenestrated and repaired after bomb damage in World
War II.
