7/36 Roundwood Grange
II
House. Dated on rainwater heads 1898. Large coursed punch-dressed
stone, ashlar dressings, stone slate roof. 2½ storeys. Vernacular
Revival style. Hall-and-crosswings plan. Entrance front: U-shaped
with projecting gabled wings. Plinth, continuous string course. All
are double-chamfered mullioned windows with almost square reveals.
North wing has lean-to against ground floor, two 3-light windows to
1st floor and one to attic. Hall, set back, has elliptical-arched
doorway with voussoirs, moulded impost - that to right with ram's
horn stop, and richly moulded stop-chamfered surround. This forms
shallow porch, the inner door with square head and expressed keystone.
3-light mullioned and transomed window to right. Single light and
5-light window to 1st floor. South wing has 5-light mullioned and
transomed window with 5-light window above. Coped gables with kneelers,
lantern finials and parapet. 2 triple-flued diamond-set stacks to
north wing. One 6-flued diamond-set stack to south wing. Garden
front: U-shaped. Wings have 7-light mullioned-and-transomed windows
with 2 king mullions and 6-light windows above. Hall has 5-light
mullioned-and-transomed window and 6-light and single-light windows
above. Porch, contained in buttress with north wing, has arrowslit
window with stained glass. Right-hand return wall has canted bay
with 2-light window with deep chamfer in each of 3 sides. 2-light
window above. Rainwater chute to right with dated rainwater head.
Most windows have decorative leaded lights of differing designs.
