House. Early C19, with earlier core. 2 storeys: complex form. White brick,
colour-washed, apart from the shafts of the chimney-stacks; black glazed
pantiles. The main (east) front has end chimney-stacks and a shallow-pitched
roof with a mutule cornice. 2:3:2 windows: small-paned sashes in deep
reveals. The 3 centre windows are enclosed by 4 2-storey pilasters, with a
triangular pediment above. On the west are 3 canted bays, 2 with tented
roofs, and all with small-paned sash windows. The south front has an internal
chimney-stack, with plain white brick shaft, a string-course, and a brick
dentil cornice. A projecting canted bay contains the entrance door, set into
a surround in Georgian style, with small-paned sash windows above. One dormer
for the attic storey, with lead-covered, rounded head and circular window with
leaded panes. This south range contains fragments of C17 timberwork, and is
the oldest part of the house, apparently originally L-shaped: there is
evidence that a wing extended beyond the line of the present entry bay. The
remaining interior fittings are mainly early C19,or, if of later date, in
Regency style; a stair with curved handrail and plain balusters. Some
Jacobean panelling in the entrance-hall.
