Large country house. 1827. Stucco on brick, lined in imitation of ashlar;
slated roof. 2 storeys and attics. Symmetrical 3-bay entrance facade flanked
by paired giant pilasters with further pairs of pilasters each side of the
entrance bay; inset sash windows with slender glazing bars, the ground floor
windows with moulded architraves and cornices; the centre window is a
casement. Massive 2-storey semi-circular portico on 4 unfluted giant Ionic
columns; the entablature is continued along the main facade. Mid C20 double
2-panel doors, plain rectangular fanlight and narrow side lights. Flat
parapet with stonebalustrading. To the right hand side is the 3-bay service
wing with segmental-headed sash windows. 5-bay garden front: windows as main
facade, the 2 outer bays flanked by giant pilasters, the 3 centre bays
slightly inset. The oriental room and dining room each have an ornamental
plaster frieze and cornice and a central rosette; the oriental room has
Chinese wallpaper of c.1860 with blossoming trees, birds, etc., and a fine
marble fireplace with flanking detached columns. Another ground floor room
has a carved marble fireplace. Well staircase of stone with wooden balustrade
and handrail.
