House, now shop. Mid/late C18. Flemish bond brick with stone
moulded coping to parapet, dentilled cornice, quoins and
cills, later fronted with incised stucco. Double-depth plan
with rear wing angled toward the right. Classical style.
3 storeys with attic; 4-window range. Steep mansard hipped
pantile roof, 3 brick stacks to right-hand wall. Flat arches
over horned sash windows to upper floors, 3/3-panes to second
floor, 6/6-panes to first floor. C20 shop with set-back
central door and C20 door to upper floor to left. Lead hopper
head to rainwater pipe to right.
INTERIOR: retains much of the C18 character. To left passage
to upper floors has flagstone floor, 2 segmental arches with
panelled soffits on moulded consoles and a modillion cornice
to front part. Rear doorway has painted semicircular
overlight. Front room of shop has dentilled cornice, wide
segmental arch to rear and deep segmental recess to right.
Rear wing has flagstone floor.
Staircase to rear left has swept handrail, tall stick
balusters and turned newels; similar staircase to right with
stair-hall having a moulded cornice, ceiling rose and frieze;
and a segmental arch to stair window on right return. Room to
first-floor rear retains skirting, dado, cornice, 6-panel door
with added moulding and mid C18 fireplace with square moulded
surround between panelled pilasters below an entablature with
central panel and moulded cornice; part of a cupboard with
panelled door to right. Windows to front room have moulded
architraves and panelled shutters, fireplace early C19 Regency
style with reeded surround, square foliate motifs to corners
and mid C19 cast-iron arch-plate grate. The cornice was
probably embellished mid/late C19. Second-floor landing has an
embellished cornice, room to rear has original skirtings, late
C19 cast-iron fireplace and 4-panel door; 2 rooms to front,
one to right has simple mid C18 wooden fire surround and mid
C19 grate. Cupboard on landing has C18 spring catch and H
hinges. The trenched purlins in attic have wind-braces to the
lower row. Large rear attic room, possibly former workroom,
has raised-and-fielded 2-panel door and similar panel to left,
dividing wall is C19 tongued-and-grooved. Unlit closet on
landing and 2 rooms to front.
