Granary at Navestock Hall)
GV II
Granary. C15/C16. Timber-framed, walling of post and muntin
construction; hipped, peg-tiled roof supported on 2 crown
posts and a collar purlin. Two tie-beams divide the interior
into a central bay and two half width end bays. However
incomplete carpenters marks on the exterior and redundant
joints for rising braces from the crown posts show that the
building has been reduced in length at both ends. On rear wall
plate inscription 'J.C. 1788 re-built' This explains odd shape
of shoulders of edge halved and bridled scarf joints in the
wall plates. Central doorway with chamfered frame. Sills
partly replaced and sitting on staddles of oolitic stone and
brick. The granary and the stable (qv) form a group with
Navestock Hall (qv).
