Almshouses. c1614, on site of chapel and hospital of the Order
of St.John. Coursed sandstone rubble; stone tiles; 2 chimneys
to front. Chapel with bellcote to left. Central 2-storey range
has central round-headed arch over passage to courtyard, with
tablet over; moulded cornice on Ionic columns. T P C over
arch, repeated at left side door to chapel, which has lancet
window and window under sandstone bellcote; 4 cast-iron
lattice casements, as on ground floor. Dwelling to right has
plank door with overlight under shallow arch with moulding,
under moulded hood on pilasters; cross-window to right; 2
semi-dormers with casements, over. Chimney to right gable.
Central courtyard: 6 units; access to Chapel, and arch to
rear, over which is coat of arms; 2 chimneys to rear courtyard
range; dormer to chapel. 3 chimneys to right courtyard range.
Restored 1984(?).
