Lychgate and boundary wall to
churchyard of church of St Anne
GV II
Lychgate and boundary wall to churchyard. Probably c.1873-5.
The boundary wall, of red brick with pebbles panels, encloses
a triangular churchyard, is approx. one metre high, and has a
chamfered brick plinth, wide sunk panels filled with pebbles,
and a coping of 3 courses of chamfered brick.
The lychgate is open timber-framed with a red tiled roof;
rectangular in plan; and in Tudor style. It has a lateral
stone plinth at each side, timber sills on these with large
convex braces to the main posts and concave braces rising to
the eaves plates of a wide hipped roof with gablets and
cresting tiles. Under the roof are Tudor arched lintels with
foliated carving in the spandrels; and a pair of wooden gates
with quatrefoils in the top panels.
