Terraced houses, now offices. c.1810. Discoloured brick set in
Flemish bond, stucco, mansard roofs of Welsh slate. Nos 19, 21
and 21A four storeys over basement, no. 18 no basement; the
original two-window range of the houses survives but cannot be
expressed in terms of the present numbering. Round-arched
entrances, those facing Northampton Square having engaged
Greek Doric columns, cornice with Greek key pattern, fanlight
and panelled doors of original design; in the return to Ashby
Street the entrance now consists of a flat-arched entrance
with simple doorcase and overlight; in Sebastian Street there
is one entrance with Ionic columns with acanthus leaves to the
necking, modillion cornice, fanlight with decorative glazing
and panelled door of original design; and another entrance
further east in a single-storey extension, round-arched with
cornice and fanlight, and flanked by coupled pilasters
carrying entablature. Ground-floor windows round-arched and
set within a round arch with gauged brick head; stucco storey
band; first-floor windows flat-arched with gauged brick heads
recessed within a round-arched panel with gauged brick head,
and individual iron balconies; second-floor windows
flat-arched. 6/6 sashes of original design to no 21A first and
second floors. Brick dentil cornice and parapet. Dormers in
mansard roof, stacks to original party walls. Return to Ashby
Street has flat-arched windows to ground floor and lacks
arches over first floor windows; 6/6 sashes of original design
to upper windows. Return to Sebastian Street has four-window
range, the two nearest to Northampton Square blank, and
original rainwater head. Area railings with urn standards and
spearhead finials.
