Crown Inn
II
Pair of houses, now a public house. Late C18, altered C19 and
C20. Coursed squared sandstone, and slate roof with coped
gables on kneelers. Double-depth plan with (originally) linked
doorways and staircases in the centre and gable chimney
stacks; the left-hand chimney now has a prominent brick cap. 3
storeys above cellars, and 2 narrow bays in each house,
between which the doorways are squeezed. Only the left-hand
doorway contains a door, the right-hand surround being filled
with masonry. All the window joinery is altered: there are
sashed windows in the right-hand bays on the second floor, but
C20 top-hung casements elsewhere. The rear wall contains stair
windows in the centre.
