Two shops. c1800, altered C19 and C20. Sandstone ashlar with a
slate roof. 3 storeys and 4 bays under a cornice. The ground
floor is occupied by C20 shop fronts, but parts of a C19
timber shop front survive: to left and right are fluted Doric
columns, and the cornice above the ground floor also seems to
be of the same period. The upper storeys have glazing bar
sashes with plain reveals, of 12 panes on the 1st floor and of
9 panes with projecting stone sills on the 2nd floor. Iron tie
plates between bays on both floors are a C20 addition.
Chimneys to left and right.
HISTORY: an old photograph shows the shop front as it appeared
when the building was occupied by Fenton and Co., Silversmiths
and Ironmongers. They traded from 1855 until the 1960s.
