Row of houses. C17, with probably late C17 front to left return and probably
early C18 front. Grey brick with red brick dressings; old plain-tile hipped
roof; brick ridge stacks. 2 storey, 9-window range. 6-panel doors with
overlights and flat hoods to left and right of centre. 12-pane segmental topped
sashes to all openings. Flat brick band between ground and first floor. Parapet
to eaves. Left return: Coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings. 2 storey,
5-window range. Sash door with flat hood to left, 16-pane sashes to ground
floor. Chamfered brick band between ground and first floor. 5 cross-windows to
first floor. Chamfered brick band to eaves. Chamfered rusticated quoins to left
and right. Interior not inspected but likely to be of interest. Reputed to be
where Charles 1st held his court at Benson on his flight to Oxford during the
civil war.
