The Crown Public House

Public House. C16 or earlier with later alterations and additions. Timber
framed and rough rendered, painted brick return. Red plain tiled roof, outshot
at rear, grey slate band to front projecting eaves. Left external part plastered
red brick chimney stack. Off centre right chimney stack forward of ridge. 2
storeys. First floor, 3 vertically sliding sashes. Ground floor, left C20 red
tiled bay with small paned fixed windows to right and left of a blocked doorway.
Central C20 gabled porch, door with top light. Right small paned vertically
sliding, sash window, moulded surround. To the right is a C20 single storey
extension with a window similar to ground floor right. Internally much of the
frame is concealed but the ground floor right bays have fine moulded ceiling
beams. There is a large C17 or earlier chimney stack. Jowled storey posts and
stop chamfered bridging joists to first floor. A large cambered tie beam to
ground floor left return is now cut through or partially covered by a C20 fire
surround; possibly a tie beam to an earlier single storey building.
