BRIDGE STREET

Bridge Farmhouse

II

House. Formerly farmhouse, mid C17 with fragmentary C16 core and
C18 or C19 alterations. One-and-a-half storeys and attics.
Timber-framed and rendered. Thatched roof, half-hipped to left,
with thatched gabled casement dormers; axial C17 chimney of red
brick. C19 casements. 2-panelled C19 entrance door. A 3-cell
house with rear kitchen wing mainly of mid or late C17. The left
hand gable wall beside Bridge Street survives in-situ from an
earlier house of C15 or C16, with evidence for an unglazed
shuttered window; the twin service rooms at this end rebuilt C17.
Back-to-back C17 fireplaces to hall and parlour. A bridging
joist and fireplace lintel in the hall, and 2 sections of wall
plate have trailing leaf carving and are reused from an early C16
house of above-average quality. Divided into 3 cottages late C18
or C19.
