Entrance gateway to Ravenfield Park with attached railings, Mid C18,
probably by John Carr for the Ravenfield Hall estate. Ashlar sandstone;
wrought-iron railings and gates. Double gate and side gates with inner and
outer gate piers; attached railings on quadrant plinth walls which return to
line roadside and terminate at end piers. Main gate piers: each with
re-entrant corners, plinth, band-rusticated shaft with triglyph frieze and
cornice beneath block with paterae surmounted by pedimented cornice with
acanthus cup to pineapple finial. Outer gate piers: square, otherwise
similar to main piers but with lower cornices surmounted by ball finials
having bands with Greek key ornament. Main gates: alternate wavey and
straight dog-bars with diagonal brace; top rails with ring ornament and
rounded finials, scrolled stiles. Remains of side gates with spear-headed
dog bars and pendant decoration to top rail. Coped quadrant walls with plain
railings return to line roadisde and continue approximately 70 metres to
north and south where they terminate at ashlar piers with sunken panels and

to Ravenfield Hall remodelled by John Carr but now demolished.
