Old Rectory
II
Rectory, now house. Late C17 with C19 additions, dated JRS 1850 and C20
alterations. Squared coursed limestone. Steeply pitched slate roof. Brick end
stacks. Central range with later range added to rear forming T-plan with later
C19 single-storey additions. Main elevation. 2 storeys plus attics. 3-window
range. Original entrance in left gable now blocked, C20 entrance inserted with
window opening and C20 Tuscan porch added. C20 entrance is flanked by 2-light
wood mullioned and transomed windows with keyblock stone heads. First floor has
three 2-light wood mullioned and transomed windows with keyblock stone head,
lead cames, wrought-iron springs. 3 flat-roofed roof dormers. Interior has
chattered beam and fireplace with chamfered bressumer. Said to have a cellar.
The Old Rectory was mentioned in 1679 and suffered a fire in 1928 (VCH).
