Almshouse row. c1912 by Frank Atkinson. Brick with hipped plain tiled roof, panelled
ridge stacks to outer ends. Single storey with tiled eaves, hipped break to left with
lower, set back bay to left end. 4 casement windows across under gauged heads with
further casement windows in outer, tiled, recessed bays and 2 recessed openings
to centre. Panelled doors in sides of recesses. Central lantern with globe finial
on bracket over centre opening.
Whiteley Village was provided by William Whiteley for thrifty old folk and was laid
out on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, employing leading architects of the day.
