Rectory, now house. Early C18 and early C19. Squared coursed limestone with
Collyweston slate roof. Originally U-shape plan, now double-depth. 2 storeys
with attic. Main front of 5-window range. Central C19 part-glazed door has
panelled reveals, fanlight with glazing bars and moulded wood surround. Sash
windows with glazing bars under gauged stone heads. Moulded stone cornice and
hipped roof with 3 hipped roof dormers with casement windows. Brick and stone
stacks at ridge. Elevation to left has similar sash windows with wood lintels.
Rear elevation has 2 projecting wings with hipped roofs and C19 single-storey
lean-to between. Similar sash windows, one is tripartite. Interior has early C18
staircase with turned balusters, stone flagged floors and remains of large open
fireplace with bressumer in room to right of entrance. Deeds of house date from
C14 when it was a rectory belonging to The College of Newark, Leicester. It
became lay property at the Dissolution of the Monastery after which part of the
grounds were granted for the building of a new vicarage.
