Church. 1830 by Woodhead and Hurst. Coarse gritstone blocks each
with punched finish and draughted margins, finely tooled dressings,
graduated Welsh slate roof. Symmetrical Gothic style. Rectangular
nave and chancel in one with projecting 2-storey west porch. West
gable front with central bay breaking forward, central doorway beneath
arch and hood, 2-light window above with Y-tracery and hood which
returns to form continuous dripmould. Similar 2-light windows to
flanking bays. Coped gable surmounted by small square bell-tower with
3 clocks and louvres beneath gablets, the whole surmounted by a heavily
crocketed pyramidal roof. 4 corner piers carry up into embattled
turrets. North and south fronts: 5-bay chancel and nave with buttresses
between each bay. 2-light windows with Y-tracery and hoodmoulds with
floral stops. Repeated blank-shield motif to eaves course. East end
has central break, 5-light Perpendicular window and corner piers carried
up into embattled turrets. Interior: Plain, with gallery at west end
supported on 4 cast iron columns.
