II
Large house now offices. Late C18 or early C19 with later C19 and
C20 additions. Ashlar sandstone, stone slate roof. Irregular plan,
symmetrical entrance front. 2 storeys. 3 : 1 : 3 windows to 1st floor.
Plinth. 3 stone steps to part-glazed door set within open stone porch
with 2 Doric columns, matching imposts, plain frieze and pediment.
Wide flanking canted bays each with 3 sashes with glazing bars in plain
projecting surrounds linked by a sill band. Similar windows to 1st floor
with projecting sills, another sash above porch. Wooden eaves cornice.
Hipped roof with stone copings. Tall shouldered stack to left eaves has
moulded string and cornice, another similar stack to right ridge.
Right return: 4 bays to left have windows as front, to their right a
short projecting late-C19 wing has 2-storey canted bay window surmounted
by pierced balustrade. To right an open loggia with 4 Doric columns
and an anta, modillioned cornice.
Interior: entrance hall has off-centre staircase with elaborate cast-iron
balustrade. Reeded wooden architraves and pine panelling. Contemporary
fireplaces in ground-floor rooms to right. Decorative plaster features
including ornate coved ceiling with central roof light to 1st floor rear
room.
