attached outbuilding

Two houses one now outbuilding. Early C19, of 2 builds. Coursed squared stone;
interlocking tile roof to taller house, pantiles to lower house. 2-storey, 2-bay
house with<lower 2-storey, 2-bay house, now outbuilding, on left. Taller house
(Blacksmith's Cottage): blocked door on left, board door to right of centre, each
with timber lintel. A 2-light 8-pane side-sliding sash window to each floor of
each bay with timber lintels (ground-floor right window without lintel). Brick
stacks to centre of ridge and at right end. Lower house (outbuilding): board door
flanked by 2-light windows on each floor; gable stack removed. Rear: taller house,
of snecked stone, has narrow central board door and outshut to left. Lower house
is of large herringbone-tooled stones. Interior: in right room of taller house
a massive stone fireplace with iron range, large-scantling chamfered cross-beam,
and board door into rear outshut pantry; lower house has stone fireplace with
remnants of grate on left wall. Included for group value.
