Pair of Nettlefold monuments
approx. 2 metres south of chancel
of Church of St Mary and St Nicholas
GV II
Pair of headstones complete with brick bodies and footstones. Later C18,
commemorating Robert Nettlefold (d. 1761) and Elizabeth, wife of William
Nettlefold, (d. 1792). Limestone and brick, in matching design, with headstones
which have shaped tops and elaborate carving which includes a radiant eye
encircled by a serpent, over a skull embraced by cherubs. The inscription on the
later of the pair is worn and partly illegible.
