GV II

Walled garden, with gardeners house, bothy, lean-to greenhouses and gates.
Mid C18 and C19. Coursed squared limestone and brick, English bond. Stone
slate roof, wrought and cast iron. Garden wall: heated north wall of
limestone lined in brick with pantile coping has flues and 2 stoke-holes
surviving on the north face. East, west and south walls of brick, with
ashlar coping and pierced by 2 gates with cambered arches in headers on east
and west sides. West gates of plank construction, east gates (towards the
Hall) of wrought iron, with plain bars and rails and C-scroll decoration.
Gardeners house and bothey: built on the centre and west end of north garden
wall. House: 2 storeys, 2 bays with added bay to east. C19 6-panel door;
small square windows. End stacks. Rear has larger 16-pane sashes with 12-
pane sashes above. The bothy is a limestone lean-to range, the pantile
roof replaced by corrugated asbestos. Single storey, approximately 5 bays
with 2 plank doors and side-sliding sashes with glazing bars and 2 lean-to
glasshouses on south (garden) side. These are late C19, with elaborate cast-
iron roof structures and ventilation systems.
