SP 74 NW STOKE BRUERNE STOKE PARK

7/182 Dovecote and attached stabling

Dovecote. Dated 1684 extended C19. Coursed squared limestone, half-hipped
plain-tile roof. Single storey. Central round-arched doorway, red brick jambs
and keyblock and boarded head; probably insertion of c.1800. Flanked by 1-light
casement windows with wood lintels. Square blocked 1-light windows at higher
level with ironstone jambs and wood lintels. Ironstone datestone above door
inscribed A/FF/1684. Roof has ornamental tile ridges and central square timber
glover with pyramidal slate roof. Attached single-storey red brick stable wings,
probably mid-late C19, project either end. They have stable doors and windows
above with segmental arched heads. Interior of main block sub-divided
horizontally but retains roostings.
