House. Probably C16 timber frame, encased in brick mid-late C17. Post and
truss timber framing, Flemish and random bond to brickwork, Norfolk reed
thatched roof. Of 2 storeys, the upper storey partly within the roof space,
and 3 bays; lobby-entry plan. C20 glazed door under porch between bays 1
and 2; tripartite sash windows in flush wood architraves below soldier
arches to ground floor. Upper floor: 3 pairs of 3-pane casements divided
horizontally by the wall plate of the timber frame; the upper windows under
swept dormers. Brick ridge stack opposite the entrance and to right gable.
Right return (to road): inserted window in blocked doorway to ground floor,
right; C19 four-pane sash in flush wood architrave to first floor, left.
Interior: substantial remains of the timber-framed house with rear aisle
survive, including principal posts, braced to wall plates and tie beams with
principal rafters and stud partitions. A passage along the rear of the
house is in the former outshut or rear aisle and the mortice for a
horizontal aisle strut is visible in the back of one of the principal posts.
