19.10.51 Manor House
GV II
Small country house. Earlier C17, altered C19. Rendered timber framing with
brick nogging above coursed rubble stone ground floor. Swithland slate roof
with brick and stone ridge and side stacks. H plan. Front has 4 gables.2.1/2
storeys of 5 wooden mullion and transom windows with leaded lights: 2 on left
gable, 1 each on centre recessed gables, and 5-light on right gable. On
ground floor, from left, painted wooden mullion 5-light canted bay, 2-light
wooden mullion and transom window either side gabled porch and 2-leaved door,
and 4-light stone mullion and transom window with hood mould. 3-light
casement with leaded lights in both wing attics and similar central dormer.
1.1/2 storey wing on right end.Garden front to rear has 2 and 3-light leaded
casements, a 5-light canted bay on ground floor of each gable and 1 storey
earlier C19 brick vestibule spanning recessed centre. 4 15-pane windows and
central French window with overlight. Inside are chamfered beams with curved
braces in cellar, and reset C17 panelling. The house was partly rebuilt after
a fire in the 1830's but is said to retain timber framing behind the render.
