Orangery and Garden House, styled as Temple, circa 1760, by James Paine.
Stone ashlar; lead flat roof and dome, slate pent roofs, dichotomic plan
of orangery against garden house. Orangery: 3 bays front on podium
surround, engaged Ionic columns fluted necking to capitals, dividing bays
and paired at angles with niches between; cornice at springing level of
arches to openings with french casements; blind openings at angles above
cornice as pseudo attic storey with patera frieze to cornice and balustraded
parapet to flat roof; half pediments set back to sides. Garden House
Front: 1-3-1 over cellar in glazing bar sashes, raised bands at cill level
across single storey half pediments flanking part projecting 2 storey
octagon with pediment to centre below attic storey (centre window blocked)
and cornice to semi-spherical dome; central French casement entrance with
radial fanlight. Interior: Orangery has exterior orders expressed internally
to oval elliptical domed ceiling penetrated over arches in Adamesque plasterwork
in light relief with festoons and cartouches; Tea Room, circular with painted
panels by G.B.I. Colombe, depicting the life of Diana; corniced double doors,
patera frieze and dentilled cornice to elliptically domed ceiling with light
relief anthemion and feather patterns. Music Room: octagonal with niches to
angles, coved ceiling painted with trompe l'oeil sky.
