Summerhouse, now brass rubbing centre, in gardens belonging to
the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre (qv). C18 with c1870
addition. Ashlar and rubble, and brick with ashlar dressings
and graduated slate roof. Rectangular structure with oval
addition to north. Classical style. South part: end pilasters
with entablature blocks and top cornice and blocking course; 5
round-headed openings, the central one an entrance in forward
break under pediment, no glazing etc; returns have
square-headed openings, right return has tiled terrace and
pilasters with signs of capitals and entablature suggesting
removed lean-to structure. Inner entrance to north part has
re-set 6-fielded-panel door. North part: top ashlar
entablature with stylised triglyph frieze and paired timber
brackets to eaves; fielded panels flank 3 curved windows with
6-pane upper sashes over later panels. This was originally a
garden building in the grounds of Avonbank, built c1700 and
rebuilt in 1866, demolished in the C20.
