Row of 4 cottages. c1600 with C16 cross wing. Timber-frame
with plaster infill and painted rubble; thatched roof with
brick stacks. 4-unit and cross-wing plan.
2 storeys; 5-window range. Left end is rubble, lateral stack
with brick shaft; right end has wing with jettied upper floor.
3 entrances have C20 plank or half-glazed doors. Windows to
ground floor have 2-light casements, that to left with leaded
glazing, that to right with small-paned glazing; 1st floor has
2 gabled dormers with thatch birds and weatherboarding over
2-light casements, that to left with leaded glazing. Axial
stack to front of ridge.
Wing has battened door; 2-light windows to ground floor left
and 2+2-light window to right, with leaded glazing; 1st floor
has similar 4-light window. Square framing; close-studded wing
with 1st floor tension braces and tie-beam and collar truss.
Rear has dormer windows and large C20 single-storey flat-roof
addition. Right return has external lateral stack and lean-to
outshut; 3-light windows.
INTERIOR: No.15 noted as having fireplace to left with moulded
jambs, the moulding continued round bressumer, and ashlar
overmantel. Narrow sign board to left end reads: SCHEDULED FOR
PRESERVATION AS HISTORIC BUILDINGS UNDER THE TOWN PLANNING
ACT.
