2 shops with offices over. Late C18/early C19 with medieval
origins and later alterations. Stucco to front; Welsh slate
hipped roof, artificial slate to rear; two stone axial stacks
to rear.
3 storeys and attic; 5-window range. First floor has five C19
2/2-pane horned sashes in plain reveals with projecting cills;
second floor has three 3/3-pane late C18/ early C19 sashes to
left, two C19 2/2-pane horned sshes to right, all in plain
reveals with projecting cills. Ground floor has 2 shopfronts;
to left (No.19) projecting shopfront in early C19 style has
windows with glazing bars flanking central glazed door in
surround with pilasters to left and right with re-used C19
Corinthian capitals, frieze with blind box and moulded timber
cornice; to right C20 aluminium shopfront has glazed door to
left leading to offices on upper floors (No.21). Two hipped
dormers with C20 two-light windows. Timber modillion eaves
cornice. C20 single-storey extension to rear.
INTERIOR has 6-panel door with panels now glazed in reeded
architrave with decorative fanlight over with early C19
coloured glazing to entrance hall (No.21), early C19 six-panel
door in moulded timber architrave to first floor landing,
first floor rooms have C19 marble fireplace flanked by arched
niches, that to right forming doorway to rear room, and run
cornice to front right, reeded cornice and C20 fireplace to
front left, small stone fireplace now in passage to rear left.
Second floor has 2 doors to front right rooms each of 2
raised-and-fielded panels and boxed-out beams; second floor
rear left in roof space of rear wing has 2 bays of roof
structure partially visible with post and rafter truss with
stub tie beam and curved windbraces, collar and structure
above concealed by later ceiling, presumed arch braces now
missing. Probable remains of roof of hall behind front range
to Market Place, now rebuilt.
