Belvedere and attached garden walls
to Westhill
GV II
Belvedere and attached garden walls to Westhill (qv). Early
C19 and mid/late C19. High garden walls are local rubble and
some cob, all with scantle slate copings and red clay ridge
tiles including one C17 crested tile. Belvedere set in angle
of L-plan walls, which extend approx 83m to NE and 22m to SE.
Belvedere is granite rubble with brick arches and 1st floor
sill string; pyramidal dry Delabole slate roof with exposed
rafter ends to eaves. Small square plan with 1st floor
observatory over ground floor with staircase. Simple
Italianate style. 2 storeys; each elevation with 3
round-arched lights to 1st floor. 2-pane casements surviving
to right-hand (north) return. Ground floor has
segmental-arched doorway on left of east front and small
window opening to right-hand return. INTERIOR virtally
complete: straight-flight staircase; boarded walls and ceiling
to 1st floor.
