Farmhouse. C17. Pebble-dash on rubble, plain tile roof to gable stacks, and a
large projecting eaves stack at back adjacent to stair turret. A lofty long block
with a projecting stair turret off-centre at the back. Front is 2½ storeys, 1 +
3 + 1-windowed; a deep coved cornice rises over a central open pediment, flush with
main wall and containing a wooden bulls-eye opening and 2 small 2-light gabled
dormers, all other windows this side are C20 replacement casements, with a central
C20 door in a C18 moulded stone architrave with pulvinated and decorated frieze,
plus flat consoles over pilaster strips, and a C20 pedimented hood. Back has 2-
light C19 casements with horizontal bars, including stair turret. Gable, right
(to road) has 4 small single light casements. Interior: C17 painted staircase
with turned balusters, square newels, deep heavy string and heavy moulded handrail,
round a very tight well, through 2 storeys, the upper flight being wider than that
from ground to first floor. Steep roof in 4 bays to 2 heavy purlins, stud
partitions; otherwise the interior appears to have been completely renewed, and
no original fireplaces are evident.
