GV II*
House, former non-residential structure, use unknown. Late C14 and C17. Timber
framed and plastered with gabled pegtile roof. 'T' plan form and of 2 storeys
with elaborate mid C17 stack against south wall with 3 off-sets on each side
and rebuilt cruciform shaft. Windows are early C19 cast iron casements with
diamond pane shapes and minor C19 stack on north end. Block at south end is
a single bay building of the late C14 with large centre-tenoned floor joists
and formerly jettied on its south flank, with traces of former entrance door
in this same wall. Remains of a number of diamond mullioned windows and one
heavy, canted, external wind brace. Roof is of crown post form with short thick
braces at each gable end. Block to north is a C17 2 storey structure of poor
quality framing with a side purlin roof. Early block is possible hunting lodge
or 'standing' associated with Hatfield Forest.
