Part of the Duchy of Cornwall Estate development of 1913-14 by Adshead and Ramsey.
Purpose-built shopping parade of 3 storeys, 8 windows in all. Late Georgian
style in pink brick with dressings of Roman cement including cornice and parapet
with panels of balustrading, or of relief ornament on rounded corner to Cardigan
Street. Second floor cill band. Narrow first floor balcony, with patterned
cast iron rail, above egg-and-dart cornice of ground floor shop fronts divided
by pilasters with feather and anthemion patterned capitals. Sash windows with
glazing bars, alternate ones tripartite and having (on first floor) deep segmental
relieving arches with keystone masks, impost blocks and fan reliefs in tympana.
The fourth bay from left has a wider single window in moulded architrave with
dentil cornice and figure relief of mermaids in panel above.
