Volunteer Life Brigade watch house 1886-7 by C.T. Gomoszynski, Borough Engineer. Weatherboarding on painted rendered plinth; right return has painted brick chimney stack; Welsh slate roof with wood finials and ventilator. H-plan. One-storey, 6-bay centre block flanked by 3-storey left and 2-storey right canted-bay towers. All windows sashes with late C19 glazing bars except those on top floor of 3-storey tower. Hipped roof. Rear elevation has 4-panelled door in inner return of 3-bay loggia; sliding storm shutters to 3 windows in loggia; 2 windows in left wing and one in right.

Historical note: Tynemouth Life Brigade, founded 1864, was the first in the country; its purpose was to save lives by firing rocket-borne lines to shipwrecks. The Black Midden rocks in the Tyne were the cause of much loss of life. Listed mainly for historical interest.
