Farmhouse. Dated 1688 on chimney stack. Flemish bond red brick with intermittent
brick string courses. Old tile roof; brick ridge and lateral stacks. T-plan,
with cross wing to right. 2 storeys; 2-window range. Left range baffle entry.
Ribbed door in simple moulded wood surround. Tiled hood with moulded wood
cornice. Mid C20 metal casements with glazing bars, 2-light to left, 3-light to
right with straight brick head and segmental arch over. One first-floor window.
Cross wing has C20 canted bay window, and small casement above. String course
above first floor. Right return side is 3-window range. Stable door. Between the
first and second windows is a very large stack, slightly recessed. Ground floor
of regular coursed limestone, with crude arched recess; upper part of thin
bricks. Large square panelled shaft has ornamental brickwork of 2 lozenges, one
with some painted decoration, and a shield containing a datestone. To rear:
Cross wing gable has pulley housing. irregular fenestration. Interior: Exposed
ceiling beams. Open fireplace. Winder stairs to landing with cut-out splat
balusters. C17 three-plank doors with strap hinges. Formerly known as Bartlam's
Farm. Forms a group with adjoininq barns (q.v.).
