1/222 Landing Stage on Fonthill Lake
6.1.66
GV II
Landing stage. May be mid C18, possibly by John Vardy, for Alderman Beckford or
possibly c1860 by G Devey. Limestone. Two pairs of large urns with vermiculated
bands, each pair linked by dwarf wall and with landing stage
between. Part of the C18 landscaping around Fontill Splendens,
which also included the Georgian Boathouse (q.v.) and the Archway
(q.v.). The urns are very similar to those on the Archway and
approach walls which are now thought to be by John Vardy.
