II
Former house, then British Schools, now recording studios. Circa 1730 house
enlarged in 1854 to form the schools. Coursed and squared rubblestone with stone
dressings and a gabled slate roof with 2 ridge stone stacks and open ridge stove
flue placed centrally. The centre of the roadside facade is the 2-storey original
house of 5 bays with banded quoins, projecting architraves and proud keystones
to the 12-pane C20 windows; first floor platband and moulded cornice. This last
was given a stepped parapet proclaiming 'British Schools' in 1854. To this 5
bay section were added 2 flanking extensions, the left for the boys, the right
hand for the girls. These have the first floor band which links them with the
original house and similar dressings to the windows. The boys' section has C19
12-pane sashes to its 2 upper windows and a 16-pane sash to the ground floor
opening. To the left of this is a 4-panel door with 2-pane rectangular fanlight
and to the right a C20 door with glazed rectangular fanlight. The girls' section
of 2 bays has C20 fenestration and a C20 eight panel door with rectangular
fanlight above.
