5/40 The Old Rectory
GV II
Rectory, now detached house. C17, C18, rebuilt mid C19. Coursed
rubble stone, Welsh slate 2-span roof, rendered brick stacks with
stepped capping. Parallel range plan, with main front to rear.
(Two-storey, 4-window west front. Half-glazed door and 3-light
casement to left, three 2-light casements to right. First floor
has two 3-light, 2-light casement and 12-pane sash, two straight
joints visible to left and right of door. Returns are windowless,
central straight joint. Rear front of 1850s has stone porch with
round-arched opening to right of centre with 4-panelled door,
either side is canted bay and to left is good conservatory with
margin-pane French windows to house, first floor has four flush
16-pane sashes in moulded architraves. Two hipped dormers with 2-
light casements to attic.
Interior has deep chamfered beam and door with two fielded panels
to front range, 2-light ovolo-mullioned casement in cellar wall,
formerly exterior wall and now in centre of house. Rear range has
6-panelled doors, stairs with two turned balusters per tread and
moulded wreathed handrail, drawing room has elliptically-arched
niche. Attached to front is early C19 former schoolroom, single
storey with pointed planked door and two pointed leaded casements
to gabled front. Ceased to be rectory in 1970s.
