House. 1862 by James Brooks, for Judge J. Mackonockie. Flemish bond red brick
with limestone ashlar bands and dressings; old tile roof with crested ridge
tiles; brick stacks. L-plan. Early French Gothic style influenced by
Viollet-le-Duc's "Dictionnaire", 2 storeys; 2-window range. Asymmetrical gables
to front with recessed porch in right gable wall; pointed hood mould and pointed
brick and ashlar tympanum over chamfered segmental arched doorway to porch,
which has chamfered pointed arch over plank door with decorative hinges. Similar
tympanum arches over casements to right and horned sashes to left with 2 sashes
over divided by column with foliate capitals. Gabled roof; front and rear
lateral stacks. Similar style to sides and rear, shouldered heads to some
windows. Interior not inspected.
