GV II
Pair of cottages, c.1700. Timber-framed and plastered. Concrete-tiled roof
(formerly plaintiled) with axial chimneys of red brick. 2 storeys. Mainly
C19 small-pane casements. Boarded C19 entrance doors with C20 open porches on
posts. C18/19 slated lean-to outshuts at side and rear. Good timber-framing
for date, with primary-braced close-studding and on-edge floor joists. Most
components are reused and re-cut from a C16 (or possibly C15) building on this
site with heavy framing; of this building White's Directory 1855 states:- "The
guildhall (now the school house) was settled in the 15th Ed IV (1476) for the
benefit of the parishioners."
