C17 or earlier L-shaped timber-framed building, restored and enlarged.
Two storeys and attic. Four windows. One dormer. The ground floor of the
main wing has been rebuilt in red brick and grey headers. Above the timbering
is exposed with plaster infilling, the south end tile-hung. The west wing is
faced with ashlar on the ground floor and red brick above. Overhanging gable
in centre of main front. Gable end facing north. Tiled roof. Casement windows.
Lady Wolseley, the Sussex authoress and daughter of the Field Marshall, lived
here from 1917 to 1927, and the house is illustrated and described in her book
"The Smaller Manor Houses of Sussex".
