Garden wall and gateway attached to north east and north west of Stutton Hall
enclosing a garden to north of the hall with a gateway in the northern face. C16.
Red brick. The wall is crenellated and pinnacled. 3 pinnacles each to east and
west faces, 4 to north face. The pinnacles with Tudor mouldings, moulded capitals,
bases and domes with crockets, all rising from pilasters. Plinth. In the west
wall is a-heavy nailed vertically boarded gate with 2 rails and 5 muntins to west
face. There is a smaller nailed 5-board gate to south east corner. The north wall
brick gateway faces north and south with return walls between, red plain tiled roof.
North face, crow-stepped gable, pinnacled angled buttresses, plinths and band
following through over moulded 4-centred archway. Sunk panel to gable. Moulded
imposts to arch. South face, semi-circular pediment with moulded finial, the angle
buttresses with moulded plinths and capitals and each with double fluted pilasters.
Moulded band below pediment carries through to buttress returns. Semi-circular
archway, moulded imposts. Square stone sundial with gnomon to pediment. Interior:
Brick floor, plastered walls and ceiling. Side seat alcoves with mouldings above
seats. 4-centre arched double gates the lower half vertically boarded, upper half
slatted with top rail. There are 3 stone garden urns within the garden.
