House. Late C17 and dated 1794. Coursed rubble stone with plinth, quoins and
stone dressings, rendered to side and rear in part, and red brick rear
extension. Welsh slate front and Swithland slate rear roof, with brick end
stacks. Stone band and brick dentilled eaves. L plan, short wing projecting
to rear. Main range gable facing, front to right. 2 1/2 storeys of stone
mullion windows : 3-light, 2-light, 3-light. 3-lights on ground floor have
transoms. Central stone doorway with moulded Tudor arch and 6-panelled door,
the upper 4 panels glazed. 2-light attic casement on left, facing, gable. 2
and 3-light casements and stone mullion windows to rear, where also l 1/2 storey
brick extension with Welsh slate lean-to roof. Chamfered beams and 2 late C18
fireplaces inside. Over front door a carved stone tablet with the Needham
arms and inscribed 'in parvo quies'. On band to either side 'M.H. 1794' for
Mary Heard who bought and partly rebuilt the house then. V.C.H., Vol. V.
