Lodge, now house. Mid C18, with C19 extensions and C20 alterations and
extensions. Brick with ashlar dressings, Westmorland slate roofs. Original
central 2-storey, 1-bay lodge, with added flanking screen walls, behind
which have been added 1- and 2-storey extensions. Central lodge: ashlar
plinth; 2-storey recessed round-arched panel, now rendered, with on each
floor the surround of a double-chamfered 2-light mullion window, with sill
band within panel on ground floor, and with sill band continuing outside
panel on first floor; ashlar modillion cornice; hipped roof with central
stack. To right, screen wall with 2-light casement window; ashlar coping
sweeping down to narrow gateway and terminating in square brick pier. To
left, screen wall with surround of double-chamfered 2-light mullion window,
and ashlar coping. Right return: blind oculus on first floor. C20 rear
extension to left. Forms symmetrical composition with the north lodge (qv).
