House. Of earlier origin, but mainly late C18, with Regency details, and mid
C19 exterior. Roughcast walls on 2 sides, others being of brickwork with some
tile-hung upper walls; roof of tiles. The front (south) elevation is 2 storeys;
4.1 windows. Roof ½-hipped at the west, hipped at the east end. Plain walls,
with a high parapet having a thick coping, plinth. Sashes in exposed frames
to the 1st floor, the ground floor having coupled French windows, with narrow
side panes; the east bay has a sash in reveals above a rectangular bay (with
hipped tile roof). The doorway (early C19) has a cornice with modillions and
dentils, supported by deep pilasters which are panelled (with diagonal patterns)
on each face, ½-glazed door. The east elevation (mid C19) continues the style,
with 4 windows; at the rear there are 4 gables (2 ½-hipped) of irregular
projection, with mostly C19 details. Inside, the beams supporting the upper
floors are C17, and the renovation of the house with Regency feature can be
traced; at the rear there is a C18 staircase. Old tie-beams are probably the
sole survivors of a pre-C17 timber-framed house.
