House. C17 incorporating timbers C13, and with C19 additions.
Possibly built for Roger Skrymshaw, late C16. Timber framed with
crucks, brick, whitewashed, with gabled and hipped pantile roof,
steep pitch. Rendered plinth, some dentillated eaves. 2 ridge
stacks. 2 storeys plus garrets, 4 bays. L-plan. Main east
front has to left, projecting C19 wing, single bay, with a
glazing bar sash. To its right, door flanked by single C20
casements. Above, to left, a casement, and to right, 3 Yorkshire
sashes, the outer pair with segmental heads. Rear elevation has
catslide roof and to south, C19 lean-to single bay. To left,
small light, and to its right, 3 casements. Beyond, a glazed
door and a casement. Beyond again, pair of doors in lean-to.
North end has C19 single bay lean-to addition with plain tile
roof and a casement. Above, a casement. Above again, a glazing
bar fixed light and above again, a casement. South front has a
plank door to left, and to right, a single casement on each
floor. Central bay has 2 cruck blades, that to south with
decorative bands, and 2 corresponding posts, one with jowl.
Cruck to north has braces to tie beam and wall plate. Unusual
two-part tie beam. Strut to collar beam to north. Stud
partition above tie beam. Principal rafter roof, largely
renewed, with pairs of collars at south end, single notched
purlin, and rafters tenoned into purlins. Roof space has 2 stud
walls with wattle and plaster infill, and single plank door.
Ground floor has chamfered span beams, that in central bay with
stop. Dogleg winder stair with square newel and above, stick
balusters. Section of mud and stud wall under C19 lean-to to
