The Red Cow Public House
II
House, now public house. Circa 1600, remodelled in the early to mid-C19.
Timber framed with plastered infill, front wall rebuilt in rendered brick
(lined as ashlar). Extended to rear in red brick. Slate roof. Framing:
square panels with straight braces. Lobby-entry plan of 3 framed bays.
2 storeys with rear wing of one storey and attic. Dentil brick eaves
cornice. Brick ridge stack off-centre to right. C20 two- and 3-light
wooden casements, 2 to first floor and 3 to ground floor. Roughly central
early C19 six-panelled door (lower 2 panels beaded flush) with doorcase
consisting of pilasters supporting frieze. Slightly lower set-back part
to right with first floor C20 two-light wooden casement, 3 small ground-
floor casements and boarded door to right. C18 rear wing with integral
brick end stack. Interior only partly inspected and timber framing noted.
