attached former Barn
GV II
Farmhouse. Late C18 (graffito dated 1778 scratched onto a brick). Brick,
Welsh slate roof, renewed concrete tiles on on rear slope only. Main block of
three storeys and three bays, with central doorway, original opening of
greater height than existing, with cambered head and keystone. Flanking
windows on ground and first floor are renewed 3-light casements with transoms
in original openings with cambered brick heads and keystones. Attic windows
are 3-light casements with timber lintels. Brick sill band. Gable end
stacks. Lower service range to right is a separate build, two storeyed, a two
unit plan with 3-light casement windows with cambered brick heads. Its rear
gable angle is corbelled out at first floor level. Two storeyed rear wing.
Large inglenook inside, and spine beam with cyma moulded stop. Staircase
probably C18, geometric design of its balusters owes much to Chinese
influence. Roof formerly thatched and to a steeper pitch: double purlins
resulting from alterations are visible inside. Range of outbuildings formerly
barn and stables but now business premises are attached to south. Brick,
Welsh slate roof. One renewed window to left but four original doorways with
cambered brick heads, and a bullseye window have been retained.
